Joint Indo-GCC Funds

Ashby Monk

Zakir Hussain has a new policy brief on SWFs for the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses in India. The short article offers an Indian perspective on SWFs and also flags up some of the partnerships India has launched with GCC countries to facilitate investment in India.

One such example is the Indo-Oman Joint Investment Fund. It has seed capital of $100 million that will increase to $1.5 billion in the next two years and has a mandate to facilitate investments in infrastructure, tourism, health, telecom, utilities, urban infrastructure and other sectors.

This is the type of organic cooperation I was talking about yesterday. Oman will benefit from local knowledge in its investments and India will benefit from Oman’s capital. Grounded in mutual interest, I’d expect this joint fund to be quite successful.

Anyway, Hussain’s article is worth reading.
